Will Skiing Blogs donate a link?

We now rank #23 for the keyword skiing games

Sites linking to our page, is the single most important way we can boost our rankings. So this week we are looking for skiing blogs and sites that will donate a link to us.

So why would a skiing blog give us a link for free?

Short answer: Your link will allow us to plant 10 trees every month (120 per year!!) on deforested land in Peru

Long answer (if you like the numbers): We anticipate that 20 links will be enough to boost us to the number one spot for skiing games. This will in turn give us 18.000 visitors a month that each play around 10 games each which makes 180.000 games played or 180 trees. So if you divide this by the 20 links, you get 10 trees per month or 120 trees every year!

Hmm ok, I like doing something for the environment, but what is in it for me?

Besides the warm fuzzy feeling you are helping to combat climate change we can offer you some tangible rewards:
- recognition: Your name will appear on our 'Thank you wall' with 10 trees next to it. A tangible proof of what a good person you are
- free content for your blog: We can offer you a free skiing game you can post on your blog, so your visitors can play a game for free on your blog (we don't suck them to our site, the users stay on your site and play the game there)

So how do I add a link?

- You can copy the following code and past it on your blog:

- If you just want the url where to link to (if you use Skiing Games as the anchor text it will be much more effective):
http://www.mygreengames.com/gamecategories/Skiing_games.html

I added a link to my blog, so now what?

Send us an email (webmaster[at]mygreengames.com) with the page where you put the link, your name (or anonymous) if you want to stay incognito. This will allow us to add you to our thank you wall

Other Questions?

If you have any other questions, leave a comment on the blog and we will add it to our list

Hopefully we convinced you to help us make playing games a bit more green.

SEO: top 10 on page optimisation tips

SEO or search engine optimisation, is the art of getting your site ranked highly in search results. I call it an art as their are probably more myths about SEO than there are facts. Essentially there are two types:

1) on page optimisation: this is things you can do on your site to get ranked higher
2) off page optimisation: this is the things you need to do on other sites

None of this is rocket science, but it helps to seperate the facts from the myths

My top 10 on page optimisation tips:

Content was, is and always will be King
1) write original content with enough words (most people think this is too much work, but it needs to be done)
2) regularly add content to the page - comments sections are perfect for this

Look after the head
3) url: get the keyword in the url - preferably in the domain, but if not possible at least in the page name
4) title tag:
- put the title tag as the first tag in the head section
- ensure the keyword is the first word in the title
- make the title a short sentence and mention the keyword once more in the title
5) description tag: don't forget this is often what the user sees in the search results, so make it attractive not only for search engines, but also for users
- make sure you have a different description for every page, not the same one for every page on the site (a lot of people still do this)
- make the description long enough, but keep in mind users only see that first 40 or so words in the search results
- aim for a keyword density of maximum 15%-20% for short descriptions and do not put two the same keyword one after the other, even if it makes sense in normal language - the keyword should not be used more than 4 times in a description

and the body...

6) headings: put the keyword in headings e.g. h1

7) ensure you have the keyword in the beginning of the body text, preferably first word or in first sentence

8) having the keyword at the end of the body, sometimes as the form of a link, can help as well

beware of the power of internal links...

9) add a crumbtrail (my green games >> top 10 on page optimisation tips) as this create lots of really relevant links inside your side

and limit the number of external links...

10) external links are not bad, but try to limit them - anything more than 30 and Google will struggle to find it a authority site.

Hope this was useful. If you have any questions on SEO or mygreengames, just leave a comment and we will try to get them all answered.

Conquering the world - where do we start? Skiing games!

Ambition to become the world largest gaming site and plant millions of trees is good, but it is not going to happen by itself. So where do we start?

We do not have any budget for advertising, so we have to make sure people find us when they look for games. Our main focus therefore is to find a small, not so competitive gaming niche and try to be ranked within the top 3 search results in Google.

We found ourselves a first niche: Skiing games. Google estimates 18.000 searches are made every month for skiing games, so let's try to be number 1 for skiing games.

Let's make our small steps count - The MyGreenGames vision

Most of us care about the environment, but being green is not always easy. On the other hand we all do alot of things everyday without thinking: searching the internet, watching videos, playing games etc. Now imagine we can transform all these small steps into green onse...

That's exactly what we are trying to do with mygreengames.com - we use the money we earn to buy deforested land, reforest it and guard it so it does not get destroyed again. This way we make something as neutral as playing online games into something green.

So does it really make a difference?
Let's dream - if we were as big as the top online gaming sites (e.g. Miniclip), this would allow us to plant 50 million trees every single month! This would cover an area the size of London every month!

We won't be that big overnight, but it shows the potential of mygreengames. Help us make a difference!
